EPS cladding works by fixing lightweight,
high-density polystyrene panels to a wall frame. Then finishing with a reinforced mesh and render coat. The result looks like a solid rendered wall. But performs better thermally. Frequently Asked Questions

What exactly is EPS cladding?

EPS cladding is a lightweight, insulated
wall system. Built from expanded polystyrene panels.   Fixed to a wall frame and finished with a reinforced render coat. It's designed to give the appearance and durability of a traditional rendered wall. While adding significant thermal insulation and reducing the overall weight and cost
compared with brick veneer.

Is polystyrene cladding actually durable in Perth's climate?

Yes, provided a certified panel system and
correct render finish are used. The render coat protects the polystyrene core from UV exposure and impact. A properly finished EPS wall performs well through Perth's hot, dry summers and wet winters. The panels themselves are also fire-rated to relevant Australian standards. They are installed as part of a certified system.

Can cladding beinstalled over an existing brick or block wall?

Yes, it can. Though the approach differs
slightly from a new timber-framed build. Existing masonry generally needs a suitable fixing system. It requires additional preparation to ensure a flat, sound surface before the panels go on. We'll assess this during your site visit. Then recommend the right approach for your wall type.

Does EPS cladding need council approval or a BAL fire rating?

Depending on your build type, location and
local bushfire attack level (BAL) rating. Certified EPS systems can be specified to meet the required fire performance. We recommend confirming requirements with your building surveyor or local council before installation. We're happy to supply product certification documentation to support that process.

What's the difference between cladding and rendering?

Rendering is a coating applied directly to
an existing masonry wall. While cladding (in the EPS sense) is a full wall system. Insulated panels fixed to the frame first. Then finished with a render-style coat. Cladding adds insulation value that a render-only finish on brick doesn't provide. It's faster to install on a new build.
